What Makes UK Different?

New Immigration Rules for UK Student Visas

The UK’s transition to a points-based immigration system has significantly enhanced opportunities for international students. With the introduction of the Student route on 5 October 2020, the UK has removed caps on international student numbers, emphasizing its commitment to attracting global talent.

Key highlights of the system include:

  1. Post-Study Work (PSW) Visa Flexibility:

    • Ph.D. graduates can stay in the UK for 3 years post-study.
    • Master’s graduates are allowed a 2-year stay, with discussions about possibly extending this to 4 years.
    • These changes provide graduates ample time to gain work experience and transition to long-term employment or other visa routes.
  2. Focus on Highly Skilled Individuals:

    • Priority is given to students in scientific, academic, and technology-related fields, aligning with the UK’s broader goals of fostering innovation and economic growth.
  3. Growth Target for International Students:

    • Aiming for 600,000 international students in UK higher education by 2030 demonstrates the government’s long-term vision for internationalizing education.

These policy enhancements create a robust framework for students seeking academic excellence and career opportunities in the UK while contributing to its vibrant economy.
